Bottled on 2/20/2020 (brewed in 3/2019); consumed on 7/21/2024
Pours a clear, copper-orange body capped with a finger and a half of fluffy, slightly off-white foam; decent head retention leaves a choppy layer of cap, waves of denser, soapy collar, and little-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass with any longevity.
Aroma opens to quieted blueberry tannins and a lemony funk interplay, with soft oak settling to a deft bit of horse blanket as subtle touches of vanilla bean in the backdrop lend to pseudo pie crust sensations on the fade.
Taste brings blueberry must, a tinge of prickly oak, and white wine upfront into a level, lemony funk past the mid-palate; a milky sheen evolves over time as musty peach lingers into the finish.
Mouthfeel features a light body and delicate, moderate carbonation, dispersing a flaky crispness and extending to modest acidity; a bright and brief twang builds through the mid-palate, fading gently past the swallow.
Understated contrasts of blueberry and peach meander through a deftly inflected vanilla serving to detail and soften; amplified, unencumbered refreshment via casual adjunct integration.

Brewed in March 2019.
Poured into a Belgium tulip at approximately 40 degrees.
Appearance - Pours with little to no head, clear, amber hue reminiscent of, dare I say, rose“. Trace evidence of yeast-like sediment present.
Aroma - Bombarded by a bushel of green apple, sweet tart candy with a conspicuous funky profile in attendance.
Taste - White grape and Sour Patch Kids hit first, followed by prominent early harvest white peach that leads out a fusty hay-bale quality. Unfortunately, my palette could find no evidence of the Tahitian vanilla bean; although a more sophisticated palette could probably find some merit in the addition.
Mouthfeel - Light and very dry with mild carbonation and a champagne-like character.
Overall - This is a great representation of a wild fermented ale. Forethought and artisanship are uniquely rewarded in this offering from Freak Folk.
