they call this beer experimental, but im not sure how different it is, it certainly doesnt seem like the hops are anything new or challenging, and whether it goes into the category of a robust pale ale or a malty ipa, it really isnt all that unique, although it is one of the better beers i had from these guys, full of flavor, well balanced, and still bitter and hop driven more than anything else. its got a nice deep reddish glow to it, almost a full inch of off white head, and an aroma of spicy hops with some higher alpha qualities and subtle orange and pine. there is a breadiness to the grain, baked and toasted and hearty, but it never gets very sweet. the hops seem fresh to me, have some bite, and not all on the finish. bitter orange and spruce come out of this, a little bit of outdoor sort of bush weed, a forest vibe, and a little bit of a west coast oily slickness in the feel. medium bodied with nice carbonation and bit of a lingering hoppy finish. this is tasty stuff, uniquely proportioned but well short of what i would call an experimental beer. either way, its one of the better beers they are making right now.
