lmota started with a base of Pilsner malt from Joseph’s Grainery in Colfax, WA, which was then fortified with Frank Spelt from Homestead Family Grains. Additions of raw Red Russian Wheat and Purple Egyptian Pale grown by Palouse Heritage in Endicott round out the malt bill with a robust texture and rustic dough-like character.
The second aspect of Almota comes from an extended rest in oak providing time for our house yeast culture to mature giving way to notes of stone fruit and Meyer lemon merging the yeast character with the texture and body of the oak.
The end result is something we’re proud of: a dry, balanced farmhouse ale with a higher level of refreshing bitterness than our other offerings. Additionally, Almota puts on display the importance of oak-aging in our beers without any adjuncts – and it wouldn’t exist without the amazing specialty grains and maltsters we’re privileged to work with here in Washington state.
Almota is named after a spot on the Snake River not far from Joseph’s Grainery.

16oz can. Bottom stamp reads 'B:22115.2'. Label has the ABV% as 4.6%.
Unfiltered, straw colored body. One finger of small bubble white head quickly dissipates for a thin, partial cap and bubble fed ring. No lacing.
Aroma of oak, grassy funk, lemon, and legacy grains. Complex malt base.
Taste is a lemon sour, with flavors of green melon, oak, and fruits of pear and peach. Brett funk. Some pepper spice. Aftertaste is quick to fade, but a segment does linger with the oak, yeast, and grains.
Mouthfeel is dry but has some depth and substance. Fruit sweetness balances with the tartness. Good carbonation.
Oak really supports the natural fermentation of this brew. Refreshing and dry at the same time. Seldom encountered heritage grains.

sick they are doing this in cans now, i thought this was exceptional, thanks to my homie for leaving this one at my house. a mixed heritage grain saison with a nice hop profile on it and some cool woody funk, both fresh and mature at the same time, yeast driven but complex on the malt side too, rustic but super refined, this is what i know and love fair isle for, and i could drink this happily every day for the rest of my life, wish i could! that this is so low alcohol, so agriculturally inspired, and so dialed from a quality standpoint, blows my mind. specialty pils and spelt malts in here, egyptian purple wheat, a raw red wheat too, really neat foundation for this, sort of presents like a grisette at its core, no rye but still some earthy spice to this, its dry but complex, cohesive but not simple, fluffy in feel and texturally interesting, and its way cool that there is some unmalted grain in it, this is everything i stand for. the fermentation rules too, lots of funk, more bretty in the nose than a lot of fair isle stuff, only faintly tart, mouth watering and a little lemony, with the oak backing it and adding a sturdy depth to this, really round and layered. its the hops that make it seem fresh, the spicy and bitter green noble character coming up against more modern fruitiness, low alpha and with some white grape, green melon, and verbena notes, a touch juicy even, kiwi fruit, pear, not overwhelming or out of balance. all the elements marry together so well in this, its wonderfully effervescent, shockingly dry for how flavorful it is, and in some ways ancient and timeless and artful and in others modern and scientific, just masterful overall, among the best ive ever had from these guys. so much nuance, such thoughtful grain sourcing, amazing ferment, my god i love it!
