Appearance: Poured a crystal clear amber that shows steady carbonation with big ol' bubbles and a thumbs worth of head that didn't lace or retain. Body looks great, but I think it needs some more carbonation.
Smell: I am a bit concerned this beer might be infected, as it gives off a strong acidic lemon note with caramel malt in the background of it. I am going to presume it isn't given how clear the body is, and usually such beers for me are either too carbonated, completely flat or cloudy to an absurd degree.
Taste: Well that lemon note isn't as potent as it is in the smell, and warming seems to mellow it out, but it is still there to start the beer before the barest touch of malt and echo of earth hits near the end with a non-descript almost sandy yeast dryness at the end.
Mouthfeel: The acidic to dry isn't doing it for me, nor is the low carbonation. The transitioning is ok, but that initial lemon note is really out of place for this style.
Drinkability: It doesn't settle down well, as at about the half way mark my stomach is saying no more. Medium body and refreshing enough I suppose, but it lacks the malt that should come with this style.
Final Thoughts: I debated making this review as I'm not 100% certain if this beer is infected or not. To be fair I did pick this up in March and it's June now, so that is a bit of time sitting in the fridge. It may be the case of keeping this stuff on the shelf for too long, however the brewer's website does show it on their current menu, indicating perhaps this wasn't brewed for October. This one is a pass, unless you know it's fresh and really want to confirm that no, that lemon note isn't normal.
