quite a fine example of the style here, authentic in the important ways, robust as they go, but still obviously a lager, still very much german in its essence, and a very nicely refined brew overall, maybe my favorite of the three i got to drink in this awesome little brewery. deep brown with some crimson coming through at the edges, tan head on top with lots of lacing in its wake. aroma is plenty roasty, with some dry kilned grain character as well and just a little middle sweetness, german lager yeast and some minerals from the water profile too. there is a breadiness to the flavor that i really like, its like the roast is there, and then toast, without any chocolate or caramel layers, the drier side but with plenty of depth, a hint of raisin to it, unlit cigar, and good espresso beans. the body is medium, the finish is pretty quick, and i can taste the lager yeast pretty much the whole way. nice carbonation on this, and high drinkability for a dark beer like this. seems very alaska to me, but that could be the epic views out their front window. this place is rad, not to be missed if you are in juneau!
