Served in a shifter at Hidden Mother Brewing in Spokane, WA. My 1st Sahti.
Mostly clear, autumnal amber color, with no head whatsoever, as standard for this still-served style.
Fruity, restrained juniper notes along with a sourish tartness.
Very drinkable stuff. I don't have the slightest idea of it's authenticity, but it's quite easygoing on the palate. The juniper flavor is very mellow, and there's a mild, spicy dryness that reminds me of a saison.
Fairly light yet coating body and mouthfeel.
Like I've already said, I can't tell if this is an authentic Sahti or not, but I dig it. Cheers to HM for trying a style that's pretty unusual for these parts.

collaboration with mockery out of denver, wonder what the connection is there. its got a ton of juniper character to it, and is apparently served still on purpose, which i dont recall from other examples of the style, but i am no expert on sahti. i do find myself wishing the amber toned liquid had some life to it though, traditional or not. there is a neat yeast to this thats almost more captivating to my senses than the juniper, its saison-esque, but not super clean, a bit rustic and unfamiliar to me, which is neat, and it seems to have a little spiciness or something, some pepper in the pine, appealing and ancient seeming. this drinks like some gruits ive had, with some malt sweetness and toasted character, a high herbal thing with a gin-like botanical profile lead by juniper, its piney and had citrus and menthol notes too, fresh but also mature, the fermentation profile is right on for this, and there is neat balance here. i love the complexity, but i could be a little drier for me, and some carbonation really would help make it feel as alive as it tastes, it does seem missing to me, regardless of how its supposed to be, i always think the same thing with still lambic as well. fun and inventive beer though, so far everything i have had from hidden mother has been both of those things, looking forward to having more and more beers coming out of the new space! clever and weird and good!
