Red wax-sealed bottle #205 of 307. Poured into a tulip glass. It pours a honey-amber color with some rosy hues, and almost a full finger of foamy, ecru-colored head and thick lacing. The smell offers caramel, brown sugar, oak, raisin, fig, and just a whiff of bourbon. It has all the tastes you'd expect in a Dubbel, opening with the fruity sweetness of raisin, fig, banana, and brown sugar, along with clove. There is also evidence of the barrel aging in the presence of earthy, oaky notes and Buffalo Trace Kentucky bourbon, which contributes hints of molasses, vanilla, and anise. It finishes with a touch of hop bitterness. The mouth feel is on the thin side with appropriate carbonation. Interestingly, it seems rather boozy for 6.2% ABV. Overall, Serendipity is well-conceived; the Buffalo Trace bourbon flavors work compliment a traditional Dubbel. I enjoyed it.
