2022 vintage (released in 8/2022); consumed on 1/21/2023
Pours a viscous, plodding, jet-black body capped with a shortly formed spurt of deep mocha fizz, dissipating almost immediately to a fuzzy, thin collar and zero cap or lacing against the walls of the glass.
Aromas of toasted coconut phasing into cinnamon present prominently before a distinct coffee roast override; minimal bourbon perceptible through dense milk chocolate roast at the core of the bouquet, while a soft maple soak becomes apparent as the beer warms.
Taste shows subtle cinnamon against a maple syrup sweetness baseline as coffee roast extends over the mid-palate and thick milk chocolate washes over the back end; oaky barrel comes on late, imbuing a slight bourbon hit through the finish.
Mouthfeel features a medium body and minimal carbonation, easing creamy textures veering oily upfront as subtle barrel tannins and a distant grit progresses over the mid-palate; an inky heft persists through the back end and the finish maintains a slight creaminess against mild warmth.
Exceptional balance of indulgent adjuncts shine through as precarious barrel presence measures the oncoming waves of sweetness; an even-tempered dessert stout, trending decadent without overwhelming.
