Millivolt #127 – Comet Juicy IPA
Foxtown Brewing Co. | American IPA | 6.4% ABV
Look (3.75):
Golden in color with decent clarity and persistent lacing. Visually it sits between styles — not fully hazy, not crisp-clear — giving it a slightly “in-between” appearance that’s appealing but a bit stylistically ambiguous.
Smell (2.5):
Bright citrus leads the aroma, especially red, pink, and white grapefruit. There’s also a sharp, slightly pungent note on the nose that detracts from the overall impression. While it doesn’t dominate the experience, it softens what could otherwise be a very inviting citrus-forward aroma.
Taste (4.0):
Juicy grapefruit comes through clearly on the palate, supported by subtle orange notes and a light underlying malt sweetness. The beer finishes dry and clean, without tipping into sugary territory. This is more fruit-forward than bitter, with yeast and hops doing most of the work rather than the grain bill.
Feel (3.75):
Smooth and very drinkable, especially considering this was sampled from a flight. Carbonation feels appropriate, and the body is medium with a clean finish. I expect the mouthfeel would benefit slightly from a full pint.
Overall (3.75):
This IPA doesn’t sit squarely in one stylistic lane — not fully West Coast, not fully hazy — but the flexibility works more than it hurts. There’s solid complexity and enjoyable citrus character throughout, particularly in the finish. Worth revisiting on a full pour, and likely to improve with more time and context.
