Wisconsin Goodbye – Foxtown Brewing
Style: New England IPA (leans No Coast)
ABV: 7.2
Reviewed: Test batch at the brewery & later canned release
Scores & Notes
Look – 4.0
Pours a hazy pale gold (SRM 4–5) with good opacity. Lacing sheets nicely down the glass, giving it an appealing, inviting presentation.
Smell – 3.5
Initial test batch had a slightly off-putting note, but the canned version is much cleaner. Aromas are grapefruit-forward with citrus zest and subtle hop complexity.
Taste – 4.0
Citrus dominates, especially grapefruit and lemon, followed by a hint of pineapple sweetness. Pine notes linger in the finish, giving it a No Coast character. I think the slight bitterness comes from the amalgam of the multitude of hops being used here..
Nothing in particular is high alpha... But this one bitters just the right amount to offset sweetness...which is subtle. compared to the sweeter fruit juice and bouquet of many of the juicy IPAs... This beer gives a good sense of... The fruity goodness without the sugar feel of those malty sugary "juicy Style bordering on cloying"... But serving a different sector.
Ever so slight Malt sweetness balances the hops, and the yeast stays in the background.
Feel – 3.75
Smooth and moderately full-bodied, with a gentle warmth from alcohol. Mouthfeel supports the flavors without overwhelming them.
Overall – 4.0
A strong beer that evolved nicely from test batch to can. Hop-forward and balanced, with a style classification that says here in Wisconsin we make great beer... Initially from tradition and now It is craft... Worth slowing down to savor.... This is a step up in character above the hidden Wells which is a very good hazy IPA also brewed st foxtown.
