Foxtown Brewing – Vienna Lager
Style: Vienna Lager
Overall Rating: 4.25
Look (3.5):
Clear amber pour, right around SRM 17 and spot-on for the style. Forms a white head that fades fairly quickly with little to no lacing.
Smell (4.0):
Clean malted barley upfront with hops and yeast following. Sharp noble hop aroma—Hallertau stands out clearly. Classic lager nose with no off-notes.
Taste (4.25):
Rounded, lightly roasted malt leads the way with a subtle nutty note. Transitions into a pleasant hop presence that closes the sip nicely. Lingering malt sweetness stays on the palate between draws, then shifts toward caramel. Smooth and calming as it washes across the palate, settling at the back edges of the tongue before fading. A faint bitterness remains, inviting the next sip. Noble hop burp—Hallertau, maybe Mittelfrüh.
Feel (4.25):
Very smooth, round, and well-balanced mouthfeel. Slides comfortably across the palate and disappears cleanly. A hint of calcium in the water profile seems to dial in the pH perfectly for the malt and hop balance.
Overall (4.25):
Slightly sweet, malty goodness with excellent balance and just the right amount of hops. A light nutty tick, noble hop finish, and a yeast presence that’s clean and appropriately restrained for a lager. Nicely done.
