Doppelbock
---Foxtown Brewing
Look: 4.0 l 5.0
poured a very clear orange turning brown color ---I notice when color gets deep in the pallet like that, even the head has a little yellow-orange-tan appearance. There was fairly good head, and it left a nice lace-ring everywhere I ended the swallow. I had a little left in the can so I woke it up with the last of it going into my 12 oz mug ---Same!
Smell: 4.0 l 5.0
Definitely malt and hops ! There's a little bit of a dried fruit note, kind of like cherry, you know ---the dark kind. It smells really clean. I'm ready for this one
Taste: 4.0 l 5.0
This one hits the palate nicely. At first you taste malt and something A little extra... It's that round dark cherry, it is the same that I had with the smell, So there's no surprise that it shows up here. Between sips, if you give it some time, it gets to feel a little sweet ---Not while you're drinking it, but the after-effect takes you for a nice ride.
Feel: 4.0 l 5.0
After about the second or third sip, the alcohol starts to kick in and gives that warming feeling ---which certainly adds to the experience. This has nice body, nice character, and some deliberate layering of tastes that come out ---as it warms and opens up.
Overall: 4.0 l 5.0
This is an excellent experience when you have a full mug ---especially if you have time to sit with it. I tried this at the brewery tap room as part of a flight ---I did not remember it being as good as this is. When I realized I hadn't reviewed this one yet, I bought a single can ---I'm going to be back for some more but I'll be drinking it out of the tap. This is well worth a spin, if you have some time to wind down and contemplate on a cold winter day, and think about the festival beer ahead ---Maibock.
