Pint on draught at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It pours a dense, bright tangerine - like orange juice - with a robust milky head and thick, clinging lacing. The smell is tropical: lemon, lime, and pineapple, along with subtle coconut and floral hops. The taste is like a tropical punch. It opens with pineapple, lemon, and lime; a good balance of tart and sweet. At mid-sip the coconut appears. It's unmistakable but thankfully not overly sweet. It doesn't have the taste of an obvious adjunct. Then, the Mosaic and Ekuanot hops turn quite bitter and it finishes with a touch of astringency. This ale has a terrific mouth feel - thick and creamy with moderate carbonation and the 6.7% ABV is quite manageable. A second pour is not an issue. Overall, Wha Gwaan? is a refreshing, well-crafted summertime IPA that is reminiscent of a pina colada without the overt sweetness. A fine offering.
