2022 vintage; consumed on 9/3/2024
Pours a viscous, oil-black body capped with a sliver of barely-there, dark khaki foam; receding almost immediately to a blank surface, paper-thin yet creamy collar, and no lacing whatsoever holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas waft toasted marshmallow into gooey smoked toffee, with charred oak edges expanding to prickly tannins underlying and cherry esters informing a gentle, dark fruit undertone fading with the bouquet.
Taste offers toffee against a rapidly advancing barrel upfront, levying a building char into notes of burnt vanilla pod past the mid-palate and bitter cacao on the finish.
Mouthfeel brings a full body with minimal carbonation, leaving thick textures trending slick and creamy past mid-palate as a tannic twang encroaches on the back end and a gentle warmth finishes.
A general delineation of hefty barrel roast and an underlying sweetness to balance; while not overtly engaging, this stout strikes the necessary notes to a basic, high-level function.
