Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "Mango Boom"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: The cloudy golden body is teeming with life as hundreds of bubbles race towards the surface. The head is a finger's width of white foam that will hopefully hold up well given that it's continually being added to from below. There's definitely mango in the aroma, and the label notes that it "contains real fruit". Beyond that the malt is sweetish and wheaty. On to the flavor... it's not as mango-like as the aroma suggests but it's still pretty damned good. There seem to be some other tropical fruit flavors going on, mainly orange, which I guess are coming from hops. The malt remains as it is in the nose but there's a bit of bitterness to balance it and it finishes mainly dry as some mango lingers along with the bitterness. It's a pretty full-throttled beer for a fruited wheat ~ how strong is this? Ahhh, 6.5% - it's a Mango Wheat IPA! The head has held up well, although it did drop, and it's now a thin but creamy cap that covers the entire surface. There's some lacing as well but it's not great. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and effervescently crisp. All in all this is pretty decent but I'm not sure of who it exactly appeals to because it's too much of an IPA for the fruited wheat crowd and quite fruity for even the fruity IPA crowd. It's unique and maybe that's what makes it work. Hahaha! I just thought of it... "Such is Mango!".
