Twisted Gingers Brewing Co. "Honey Love Shakey Shakey"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is a "honey vanilla milkshake IPA" with lactose, honey, and vanilla at a whopping 8.5% ABV. It's poured a hazy straw-gold body beneath a finger's width of white foam and I can smell fruit and vanilla from a foot away. It's malty, sweetish, fruity with apple and berries, and distinctly vanilla-ish. On to the taste... there's more vanilla in the flavor than I thought there would be given the aroma, and the honey comes through as well - quite nice. It's grainy, wheaty, and sweet and vanilla-ish threaded through with fruity notes of apple, pear, and soft orange and pineapple. A touch of pine and some hop acids and alcohol keep it from getting too sweet and lead it to a semi-dry finish with the honey lingering. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and smooth across the palate with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. It's really nicely balanced, and remarkably drinkable. I initially thought that 8.5% would be a bit much for a beer like this but it actually works better because that snap of alcohol helps to hold everything in place. I'm not sure how many of these I could drink in a row (I'm guessing just one) but I'm only a little more than halfway through and I wish I had another one on deck and ready to go. Nicely done as usual although the head retention and lacing weren't as good as they could have been.
