Rye Mixed Culture Ale Aged in Tequila Barrels
It’s Been Years is a Tequila Barrel-aged Rye Mixed Culture Ale and is one of three siblings that all have very different characteristics, but share a family resemblance thanks toour proprietary microflora cultures. Some lean more toward brett funk, some push further into sour territory, all spent many moons on oak. Together, they represent the foundation of our thriving mixed fermentation program and serve as a great indication of the awesome things to come.
Our labels for these beers are a nod to the homes in which our progenitors, Vince Tursi and Mike Semenec, lived and brewed as the concept for DSSOLVR began to take root. If you’ve ever partied with Mike or Vince in the last decade, you’re highly likely to recognize these houses. It was only right that we acknowledge the places where the embryonic development of DSSOLVR began, and there’s no better way for us to do that than with three of the most special beers we’ve ever produced.

A: Pours a hazy bright golden orange in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate pale golden yellow + honey + apricot + peach + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall fizzy foamy off-white head that quickly reduces to a medium to large sized patch of very thin film covering a little less than 50% of the surface of the beer and very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of spicy rye malts with moderate aromas of slightly earthy + hay like funkiness + tart lacto lemon citrus. Slightly lighter than moderate aromas of apricot + citrus/blood orange + tropical/honeydew melon follow along with light to moderate aromas of tequila + oak.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of spicy rye + wheat + pale malts with moderate amounts of agave-like sweetness. That is followed by moderate aromas of slightly earthy + hay like funkiness and tart lacto lemon citrus. Next there are light to moderate flavors of apricot + citrus/blood orange + tropical/honeydew melon. Finally there are moderate flavors of tequila and oak. Slightly stronger than moderate amounts of acidic lingering tartness.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly heavier than moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly acidic mouthfeel. Very enjoyable with lots of complexity to the flavors and aromas and a nice play between the tequila barrel aging and the rye malts. Nice acidic and tart. Very good.

Murky peachy pour fading to orange, bubble collar. Get the rye right away in the nose, agave/tequila, honey, flowers, peach, and oak. I enjoyed this one in how inventive, potent yet balanced it is: added is apricot, tart tangerine, gummy melon, and blood orange, rye, tequila booze and oak balance so beautifully. Feel is light, tart, oaky, yet the rye, booze, and floral notes add fun textures. Unique and pops on the palate
