A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark chestnut brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark cola brown + ruby red + dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall fizzy sudsy foamy tan head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch of very slightly mottled very thin film covering a little less than 40% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + dark + caramel + toasted + slightly charred malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel + dark fruit (fig + plum) + brown sugar sweetness. There are light to moderate aromas of coffee and chocolate. Finally there are light aromas of herbal + earthy + spicy hops and a hint of lager yeast.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + dark + caramel + toasted + slightly charred malts with a light to moderate amount of caramel + dark fruit (fig + plum) + brown sugar sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of chocolate + coffee and a hint of lager yeast. Finally there are light to moderate flavors of herbal + earthy + spicy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving moderate lingering slightly sweet roasty + caramel + slightly charred malts flavors.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a hint of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Drinks very easily considering the fairly high ABV for the style and the alcohol is well hidden along with a much fuller mouthfeel than I expected from the pour. Very enjoyable with lots of complexity to the malty flavors + aromas and just enough hoppiness to balance out the sweetness.
