A: Pours an opaque yet still clear jet black in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark cola brown + chestnut brown + amber colored highlights. The beer has a four finger tall dense fizzy soapy foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of cinnamon + chiles + cocoa + coffee + vanilla + chocolate/cacao nibs + nutmeg over moderate aromas of roasted + dark + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of bourbon + toasted oak and a very light aroma of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted + dark + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of bourbon + toasted oak. Next there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of cinnamon + chiles + cocoa + coffee + vanilla + chocolate/cacao nibs + nutmeg. Finally there is a very light flavor of earthy hops. There is a moderate amount of lingering roasty bitterness as well as coffee flavors and a hint of spicy heat.
M: Medium bodied with heavy amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of dryness in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily with well hidden alcohol but the mouthfeel is definitely way overcarbonated - it is more of the mouthfeel I would expect from some lighter non-fruited kettle sour not a stout. Nice flavors from the cinnamon + chiles + cocoa + coffee + vanilla + chocolate/cacao nibs + nutmeg and a good aroma which mesh well with the bourbon barrel. Probably my favorite of the 4-pack of variants.
