An easy pour yielded a fat finger of tan fizzy foam, short lived with no lacing. Deep dark chestnut brown, clear with dark ruby highlights.
A nice blend of chocolate, coffee and caramel greets the nose. Roasted grains and a hint of herbal hops in the rear.
Semi-sweet with low bitterness, chocolate leads the taste with roasted barley, toasted dark bread and a slight astringency. I hint of toasted oats towards the finish. Caramel sweetness is balanced by roasted character. The finish is long and drawn out with roasted malt and a mild astringent bitterness lingering on.
Full bodied with soft carbonation, almost smooth (that astringency again) with a rich oily feel. Overall, a very good match to style guidelines.
