Secret Field is our Grisette dry-hopped with Citra hops. Secret Field is brewed with large portions of wheat, spelt, and pilsner malt. This combination yielded a very soft beer with a dry finish that we at the brewery love. This is the second batch of Secret Field and we are excited to get this back on for the coming sunny weather.

Blaze Brewing Co. "Secret Field"
16 fl. oz. can "CANNED ON: 02/11/21 10:57"
$4.50 @ Kunda Beverage, King of Prussia, PA
Look: A hazy golden body is capped by a full head of bright white foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: The aroma is citrusy with lemon/lime, bubblegum (clove), and a touch of hop resin over a gently sweetish and softly grainy malt base.
Taste: The flavor is more complex than the aroma suggests with additional notes of peach, apricot, non-specific melon, white grape, and lychee. It's softly spicy and earthy. The malt is basic but a little more complex at the same time. It's grainy and grassy. It's moderately bitter and yet dry in the finish.
Feel: Light-medium in body with a gentle caress on the tongue. It's softly bristling but then smooth across the palate.
Overall: This is a curious beer that doesn't fit easily into any mold. It's light in character yet intriguing and somehow satiating, highly refreshing, quaffable, and soft and smooth in the mouth.

Picked this up recently at Gary's in Madison as this looked a bit different than what I'm accustomed to. While not the best Saison that I've had, this was perfectly serviceable and easy to drink as it wasn't terribly yeasty or spicy. That probably had to do with the Citra hops taking some of the edge off of this as the end result was something that I could kick back with year-round...
Not surprisingly, this had a hazy, golden hue to it that would be somewhat radiant when held up to the light, except the foam crowded out the liquid in my pint glass pretty quickly. Yes, this was old and that probably had a lot to do with that, but something was just off in this beer's appearance. Lots of rings of lacing were left down the side of my pint glass as the rings along the bottom half were deep and well-defined. Soft yeast, apple, pear, and a bit of bright citrus were in the nose as some lemon and spice were in the back along with some grapefruit zing. Slick, balanced, and easy to drink, this was plenty malty as it was harder to detect the other ingredients that went into this.
It was nearly impossible to detect the alcohol in this as this was one of the few Saisons that I've had that would also be considered a session beer. Moderately carbonated and containing just a bit of sediment at the bottom of the liquid, the canning date of 2/11 wasn't readily apparent although I wish I had something fresher to rate on here. The lime that emerged in the aftertaste was evident of the hops as I can't say that I've ever had something of this style that contained so much of it. This ended up being a cross between a Saison and a Pale Ale and for a relaxing diversion, this fit the bill.

Pours a cloudy orange color. A large foamy head, almost a thumb length size, retains well.
The nose reveals that this is dry hopped, as it is citrusy and bright, as well as some catty and dank overtones. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon, lots of lime, pear, grass and chives.
Very dry palate that is tinged with citrus flavors of grapefruit, lime and lemon. Fruity notes of pear, and peppery and grassy spices amidst a dry cracker malt base.
Light bodied and crisp, with a very dry finish. The carbonation is appropriately lively.
Nice easy drinking Grisette that has lots of hops character. I would have again.

A: The beer is rather hazy and a bit pale yellow in color. It poured with a finger high bright white head that has excellent retention properties and hardly died down.
S: Moderate aromas of yeast are present in the nose along with notes of grainy malts and hints of lime citrus.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the flavors of lime are stronger and closer to being on par with those of the yeast. There is a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I liked how the dry hopping lended the aromas and flavors of citrusy hops to this beer, lending to its complexity. It was very easy to drink.
