how do we still not have a mexican lager category here on BA? this is not a vienna lager, and fits neatly nowhere else. one of the more straightforward beers i have had from these guys so far, a little maltier than many, but not heavy, well made but not exciting either, and maybe a little more flavorful than would generally fit in the refreshing category, although the low abv is nice for session purposes. on tap it has just a little deeper color to it than a typical yellow beer, average white head, fine clarity. not a ton happening in the aroma here, a light citrusy hop thing and some grassiness, more hoppy than i reckon is common, but not way over the top or anything either. the lager yeast is evident, clean, and mild, and the malt is fresh, somewhat more sturdy than just pale two row, but not sweet at all to me. the flavor is a bit more robust, hops start early, good balance all the way through, and just a little fruitiness in the lager yeast to marry the elements together, maybe a saaz hop thing, but a slight toasted aspect to the grain too which stands out, this is different than many, but in subtle ways, maybe seems a tad less classically mexican than anticipated from this brewery, but its a clean and flavorful lager. glad to see their beer coming around a little more frequently of late...
