Growler filled Saturday night and now nearly 24hrs from the tap. Big two finger creamy tan head standing strong for several minutes and slowly receeding to reveal the dark brown chocolate porter that was generously poured into my Willy K pint glass. Thanks to Dave who sent his 1/2 gallon jug to Schlafly's with Fred and Nena. Hope you enjoy the Founder's Breakfast Stout.

Dark chocolate dominate aroma as well as some hints of smoke - smoke more noticable as it warms to 50° and above. Some unnamable aroma becomes less noticable (possibly yeast) it was also in the taste and a little disconcerning but faded after 1st half of the glass was consumed. I liked the second half (warmer?) This porter's mouthfeel was good. Lace showed to nearly the end.

The finish with hop bittnerness was very clean and enjoyable adding much to this brews drinkability. Doubt if I would get another growler but am looking forward to the release of Schlafly's Vienna, Altbier and Bock before the end of this month. (March '05)

1/2 Gallon Growler. Hazy dark brown hue with a thin and quickly evaporating tan head. The nose is of a dark chocolate candy bar, cocoa and hints of coffee beans. The taste is creamy, with sweet roasted malts and a tinge of bitter hops. Powdered cocoa, day old coffee and some grains round out the body. There are traces of oatmeal and barley; extremely dry, with a well cleansing palate. Not a bad effort, yet ho-hum after more than one.
