750 ML bottle on sale at TW&CP. (Rating this a few weeks after having had it.)
I figured it would be similar to an imperial stout, but perhaps not as sweet or as hoppy, with at least a bit of smoke in the flavor.
I was very surprised by this beer. I detected no smoke, none AT ALL. Not that that was a bad thing. It was an unusually good stout, as it was very smooth, and it had a nicely balanced roasted/chocolaty flavor. I would happily drink this again.

Black as night with a fingernail of brown around half of the rim and just a trace of it on the top. The aroma is of dark malt and smoke in equal proportion. I'm tasting dark malt with a moderate amount of smoke and perhaps a bit of plum. The mouth is oily and viscous.

Pours a black color. 3/4 inch head of a brown color. Good retention and slight lacing. Smells of smoke, sweet malt, alcohol, wood, slight roasted malt, slight hop, and a hint of licorice. Fits the style of an American Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of alcohol, sweet malt, roasted malt, slight hop, slight chocolate, smoke, hint of licorice, and a hint of wood. Overall, decent appearance, good aroma, body, feel, and blend.

Pours an effervescent & ruddy chestnut with a finger of tan /caramel head. Great lacing & head retention
S: Some bubblegum, slight smokeyness
T: Follows the nose, a little Rauschbier flavor & dryness up front. A littte bubblegum, oaky dryness, some cocoa & beechwood smokeyness & vanilla. Finishes dry, smokey, a little hammy & with a little cocoa & a little cinnamon
MF: Medium body, lively carbonation
A nice try, not sure I would ver buy this again

Wow. So much better than I expected. The beer is fully black in color, with a thick tan head. The aroma is smokey, with a subtle campfire scent, backed with lots of chocolate-coffee roasted scents. Many (even most) smoked beers are a bit medicinal and overdone...this is an exception. The taste is very well balanced. Nice roasted grain flavor, dark malt, and a wonderful smoke underneath...think great barbecue. The body is thick and luxurious. Very drinkable and artfully crafted.

these guys have really stepped it up lately, the last several beers i have had from them have been both innovative and fantastic, and this smoked stout is a gem. i like a beer that is what is says its going to be, and this one certainly isnt real subtle on the smoke at all. instead, its campfire burning, slow, mellow, rich, earthy smoke, not bitter or sharp or acrid at all, but very strong. it doesnt feel forced to me, and it also, interestingly enough, doesnt seem german or even european on the smoked malt side of things. there is some unfamiliar smoked grain in here, or else there is enough of this thick rich chocolate malt an roast to give it a brand new presentation. this is velvety smooth, heavily smoked from first sniff to last sip, but evolving and alive, like fire itself. some nice bitter burnt notes to match, but lots of chocolate too, drier by the end. toasted marshmallow, black pepper, dark tanned leather, the smoke and dark grain together have a lot of cool old worldy synergies. i loved this, loved its bigness and aggressive smoke but in a very mellow overall beer. top quality!
