I love this concept. Single recipe for a straightforward beer, brewed with single hop varieties, each different so the drinker can compare and contrast. It is like a great homebrew experiment. This one is a hazy golden with a tall and firm white head. The aroma has a bit of malt, although the pine-like, lemon-peel citric notes of the hops are dominant. They lend some spice notes to the taste, and are wonderfully flavorful. Medium in body and drinkable.

i am very lucky to have had a new friend ship me a twelver of this new hop trial box, really stoked about it, and i am loving the beers in it. i think its a great way to get to know some unique hops, and the simple base beer is really smart. just a golden pale type, well hopped up so we can really appreciate each unique strain. i think the chinook is the most familiar tasting of the beers to me, its got some of that northwester spiciness, but also a note of grapefruit and pepper, vegetal and fresh and really well dosed. i get it as forward in nose as i do in taste, which is awesome, and the grain, light and simple as it is, is not irrelevant. there is a nice cereal and honey note to it, and good structure too, gorgeous balance in these beers, all of them really, but especially here with the slightly more intense hop complexion. this is a nice beer, but also the one in the box i expected to know this well, its a common hop now, and its delicious. its the other three that were the educational experiences for me, but i would drink this by the six pack if i could...

Look: slightly hazy pale golden color with a nice thick white head, however there is a substantial amount of clumps of sediment and huge floaties.

Smell: big pine and tropical fruit here

Taste: pine and resin are there but much more tropical fruit than I expected

Feel: near perfect, soft and smooth

Overall: the feel and some tropical fruit notes reminiscent of a NE IPA with a west coast pine/resin/bitterness. Not sure what's up with the appearance, perhaps yeast suspension not being perfected plays a part, but that's the only big negative here. Overall a tasty beer!

Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of pine, citrus and toasted caramel. Nice piney bitterness up front with some sweet citrus and roasted malt.

Gold in color with a three quarter inch creamy off white head. The aroma is of tropical fruit with a hint of pine. I'm tasting tropical fruit along the lines of overripe pineapple and cantaloupe along with a touch of pine. The mouth is lightly sticky and chewy.

Bright golden color, minimal hop haze, slightly off white head, lacing follows down the glass as you enjoy the beer.

Aromas are big pine and some bright citrus, with some malt backbone for a nice aroma.

Taste is lots of pine and a lemony characteristic that combines nicely with the single malt to give this a lot of body for a 6.5% ABV beer. Really well executed by one of my long-time favorite breweries.
