Enjoyed on-tap @ the Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis, MO for $4.50. Tapped from the Plain Black/Silver tap handle w/o a Label on it into a 16oz Nonic/Pint Glass. This offering was available right after the Dark Chocolate Orange Stout this past February.

Aroma- Cocoa sugar and cocoa with milk came out HUGE in this one. This aroma blocks out almost everything else. Can tell it is sweet and filled with grain/malt.

Appearance- Received with a .5 finger, tan head that dies quick (not much to stay around). Has a deep brown colored body and leaves tons of suds behind.

Flavor- Has the same aroma in here with the cocoa attribute and nice and dry. Oats, vanilla, and grain come in towards mid drink. Light Bitterness at the finish and more chocolate!

Mouthfeel- Medium-Full Bodied, Light-Medium Carbonation, Smooth, and has a cocoa/coffee mixed finish on the palate. Tons of roast and malt.

Overall Impression- Wow! And yet again. A TREMENDOUS stout from Schlafly! I will be looking forward to enjoying this one next Winter if not again this year. Look for this, the Dark Chocolate Orange, and Vanilla Stout next year at the Tap Room!

Coffee is the dominant aroma. It smells like a good cup of black coffee right off. There's a little bit of malty beer-type aroma behind that but you have to work to find it.

Black when sitting at on the table, but reddish brown and clear when held up to the light. Big tan head initally fades to a 1/4 inch layer of solid foam.

Malty and sweet, maybe even a little sugary right off but that is balanced nicely by bitterness from dark roast coffee flavors. The cofee flavor is very apparent and as you get further into the glass it becomes all you really taste. Some bittering from hops but mostly the flavor comes from coffee. A little bit nutty and chocolatey too.

Mouthfell is a little thin. Carbonation level is a little on the low side but overall it's pretty creamy.

A pleasant beer but not sure if I want a lot more of it. One seems like enough.

editorial info: Bottle dated October 13 2005, purchased from the brewery in May 2006.
