A - Poured out a clear, light brown color with a tan head of bubbly foam. A fairly short-lived head that left very little lace.
S - It smelled of sweet caramel with some mild floral notes.
T - Nice sweet caramel flavor with some toffee and a mild spice bite from the hops.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied lager with a dry finish.
D - This was a pretty good bock. And a good deal in a growler from the Tap Room.

Had on tap at The Schlafly Tap Room 2/12
Served in a pilsner glass
A: This beer pours a nice deep coppoer color with a 1/4 inch of offwhite/khaki head. Head recedes quickly leaving a nice spotted sheet of lace on the glass.
S: Nose is toffe, caramel, and bready.
T: Taste starts very sweet in the forefront. Toffee and caramel sweetness dominate. A bready, biscuit flavoring comes in to fill out the middle. Finish has more sweetness to it that was a touch cloying.
M: Medium body, medium carbonation, oily feel to the body.
D: Goes down ok, somewhat tasty, not too filling, mild kick, ok representation of style. This certainly fills the malt bill associated with a bock, sweetness was a touch cloying, an ok beer, but I may reach for others first.

Served in a pilsner glass at the Tap Room. Clear, dark amber body with some red tones. Nice one-finger off-white head that left a little lacing along the glass.
Subtle aroma of biscuity malt and a tiny bit of hop in the background. Not overwhelming or overly inviting, but pleasant.
I like the flavors in this beer, which follow the aroma. Not too complex, but a solid malty brew that has enough on the bitter side to balance. It goes very well with a burger or steak.
Very drinkable. If it were bottled, I'd grab a few. Solid offering.

A: Dark, almost ruby-red/black. Medium tan head.
S: As expected, some malts, but, a distinct hoppiness. Wierd for a bock, but, not offensive.
T: Sweet malt upfront, then a bitter hop finish. At first, I thought it might have been a burnt/highly roasted malt bitterness, but, the piney hop flavor was indeed there. Again, not offensive, but a bit weird.
M: Medium body, slightly oily.
D: I am still wondering about this one. I had 2 pints, that was plenty. After the 1st, it seemed to agree with me, then after the 2nd, it did not.

First time for the bock, and it was not one of Schlaflys better brews. The pour started out fine tasty looking dark amber / brown with a nice ivory skirt (Burns Nite heh) leaving small sticky laces.
Aroma was startling with a sweet caramel malt presence, at first I thought they poured the Scotch ale in error. But then the quaff. Whoo, major letdown. The overbearing dry woody hops blanketed any malt existence. Black pepper dominated the brew, to the point that one pint was all I wanted.
Switched over to the Scotch ale, and the evening was salvaged. Good Burns nite at the Tapper, but too many men in skirts .
