This unfiltered German lager calls back to the moments during one of the most exciting accomplishments in America. The light golden, hazy beer is an ode to the haze that filled the air that day.

Aroma is very husky grains and a hint of spicy hops. The flavor is grainy/husky malts, mild fruit and a mix of spicy hops and mostly smooth in the finish.

From the bottle, it pours a lightly hazy light amber color with a modest, though long lasting, head. Scent is of bready light malt. In the mouth, it is the same, pleasant and nice.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of grassy hops and bready malt. Body is medium and crisp. Biscuit malt is nicely balanced on the palate by grassy hops. Finish is long, semi-dry. Nice brew.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short bright white head.
S: Light aromas of pale and bready malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of pale and bready malts along with notes of yeast and a faint amount of bitterness. The yeast and bready malts become a bit stronger as the beer warms up.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied, smooth and slightly chewy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer doesn't taste nearly as yeasty and chewy compared to other beers in the style but is extremely easy to drink.

From a typical brown beer bottle, this brew is a hazy yellow color with a thick white, creamy head. The aroma has a bit of spice and some soft pale malt notes. Medium body and flavorful finish. Not bad.

On tap. Poured out a hazy, golden color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of floral notes, caramel and grasses. Sweet caramel taste with a hint of citrus and bitterness.

Cloudy pale straw color. Thick sudsy, bubbly white he'd collapses downward leaving almost no residual head. Sudsy lacing is left along the glass.

Aroma has sweet notes of rich bread, some yeasty notes and a pleasant herbal hop note coming through. Lovely aroma on the nose.

Taste follows the nose with rich bready notes, hints of bready yeast, herbal hops on the back end and some slight sweet notes.

Feel is medium bodied, somewhat chewy with sprightly carbonation. Smooth and easy drinking.

Overall an outstanding zwickel - one of, if not the best American brewed versions. I hope this one is not just a one off.

Had nearly made it out the door of the nearest Binny's with my budget intact -- then I spotted the Schlafly Lunar Lager pack. With a Schwarzbier and Munich Dunkel in the mix, I couldn't pass it up.

Poured into my tall Becher.

L -- Very hazy, pale straw color -- near lemonade, with a noisy, sudsy white head that holds up well.

S -- Bready, yeasty malt, DMS, and herbal hops in good concert.

T -- Spicy, herbal hops hit the palate first followed by mildly sweet, bready malts. There is a light citrus character to the hops that makes this beer very drinkable. It finishes with a nice herbal bitterness that lingers through the aftertaste, balanced nicely with the sweet malts.

F -- Mouthfeel is smooth to crisp and lightly dry in the finish with a light to light medium body (probably due to the unfiltered quality).

O -- A very well-made version of a Bavarian Helles in Keller state. Highly drinkable and quenching -- even at 5.5 (yeah, not "Imperial" strength by any means, but inching close to 6.0, and that's edging high in a drink-all-day sort of beer).
