Throw on your tweed jacket and pour this proper pint. This jet-black stout fights off the chilly breeze with roasted and rich flavors that will warm you front the inside out. Suddenly, the pub across the pond isn't that far away.

Solid color but the head doesn't last long and no lace. Nose is roasted and nutty and a touch of hops. I feel the flavor has a little bit of complexity and a long aftertaste. The start is roasted malt and a little dark fruit and smokiness and a back end where the hops slowly assert command. Creamy and even in texture. A little uneven but not without its charms.

Appearance:
A tremendous malted milk cloud, plumes up from dark, cherrywood depths. Webbed lacing with great retention.
Bouquet:
Toasted, golden brown oats with a side of robust, nutty coffee; served on a walnut brunch tray that’s been garnished with a handful of dried barley.
Feel:
A smooth medium, paved through the middle with carbonation that gently jostles the tongue like a quaint, cobblestone road.
Taste:
Roasted chestnuts dusted with dark cocoa powder, followed by a lick of black coffee.

Poured from a bottle. Very dark with a foamy tan head and lacing. Smells of lactose, roasted grain and chocolate. Full mouth feel, flavors of roasted dark somewhat bitter grain, hints of chocolate and earthy hops. Nicely done

12/2/20...pours dark black with a light lid of tan foam that eventually fades. Strong roasted notes, more coffee than chocolate. Opens smooth and creamy, then washes into a milky bitter. Stays smooth, some bite. Mellow and flavorful. Double nice.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, toffee, caramel and some piney bitterness. Sweet chocolate, toffee, caramel and a nice bitterness.

L - A medium-dark brown body with a 1/2" inch dense off-white bordering on light brown foam head.
S - Scent has a very Guinness-y feel to it with a slightly sweeter bent to it along with charred notes.
T - Taste has a bit more of a charred toast/chocolate/coffee feel to it along with the expected export stout qualities.
F - Feel is medium bodied, dry, and has a slightly bitter aftertaste that morphs into something a touch sweeter.
O - Comes across as a slightly more bitter, slightly more complex export stout with enjoyable dryness and drinkability.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Best as I can tell, was bottled sometime in October 2020, so 2+ months old. (Really Schlafly, white letters on very pale green background is not helpful)
Looks decent enough in the glass. Black body, showing clear deep burgundy when held up to the light. Decent oatmeal colored head leaves some lacing initially.
Lightly roasty aroma with a hint of licorice.
On tasting, medium roast, some anise and licorice. Some coffee or chocolate would have been appreciated.
Mouth a touch above medium, finish the above flavors mentioned.
Overall, as others have said, this beer is a bit underpowered for an Export Stout, both in abv and flavor. Tasty enough drink, and usual Schlafly quality in brewing.

12oz bottle poured into a pint
A- pours jet black with a two-finger foamy khaki head that has great retention and leaves some lacing behind
S- charred malt, dark chocolate, coffee, anise, grainy
T- dry and roasty up front, with an immediate dark fruit note, followed by notes of charred malt, coffee and bitter chocolate. The finish is dry with lingers of bitter chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of coffee
M- medium-light body with low carbonation leads to a slightly creamy mouthfeel that continues into the finish
O- easy drinking, very dry

Pours a very effervescent ebony with a thumb+ of tan head. Below average head retention
S: Roasty & that's about it
T: Follows the nose, dry, some coffee notes. Dryness & roastyness dominate as this warms, a little bit of iron too. Finishes roasty & dry
MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation. Body thins out as this warms
I wanted more body, nose & flavor, run of the mill for the style
