Served in a pilsner glass

A - It pours golden amber in color. It was topped with about four inches of off-white head.

S - It smells like milled grain. It reminds me of going to feed mills as a child.

T - It is a malt bomb. It is sweet and grainy.

M - Moderate

O - I swear it reminds me of feed we used to get for our sheep growing up on the farm. The grain and almost molasses sweetness give off similar smell and what I imagine it might taste like. I should have drank it a long time ago, but oh well, it's not horrible.

 

 

 

 

 

Pours a clear, straw/gold color. 5/4 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight yeast, citrus hops, slight earthy malt, and hint of alcohol. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Pilsner. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, dough, slight yeast, earthy malt, floral hops, and slight alcohol. Overall, good appearance, feel, aroma, blend, and complexity.

The beer pours off the tap with a clear straw yellow color. The head dissipates quickly, but leave a nice light carbonation in the glass.

The smell isn’t overbearing on the first pass, but it really enhances as you slowly drink the beer down. The aroma is grassy with yeasty sweetness and citrusy aroma hops playing in the background.

The taste is somewhat sweet with a slightly tart bittery finish. The hop oils do coat the tongue a little after having a few pulls. Schlafly did a really excellent job making such a big beer so easy to drink and enjoy. You don’t taste the high ABV, but you do get the warming alcohol sensation after the first sip and throughout the beer experience.

Poured into a 14 oz. 12inch pilsner glass. Great looking pour. Lots of bubbles rising in the slightly yellow/amber liquid up to a froathy creamy white head.
Very fruity smell. No alcohol per se but strong burning sensation in the nose. Could be hop but is probably the 9%.
Taste is creamy and full of effervescence. Malty and sweet at first then the bitter hop trys to show through. The alcohol puts a stop to that.
Mouthfeel is a semi-sticky sudsy affair that leaves the palate wanting another drink. Too bad it's not this one.
This one leaves a little bit to be desired.
Still a good try at an often hated type of beer.

Pours a gorgeous golden-bronze straw color, clear and crisp, topped by a thick, dense and creamy white head.

The nose is inviting -- bright and fresh and hoppy. The hops are fruity, green, lemony, spicy (but not spiced), grassy; the underlying theme is incredible freshness. A bit of cracked pepper on top of fresh golden grain rounds out the nose.

Thicker and richer on the palate than expected, by a good bit. Malt comes forward, showing flavors of soft delicate caramel, and toasted but fresh grain, while the hops add an interesting candied orange twist and a touch of leafy earthiness. The faintest hint of yeasty twang adds complexity.

Light bodied, soft, and incredibly balanced and well-rounded. Faintly spritzy. A ringer, and a great start to this anniversary series. If the bottle didn't say this was 9% ABV, I'd never believe it.

I'm not typically a Pils kinda guy...I popped a bottle I got from a friend with collegues and co-beer lovers...

There was a nice body, some what creamy to this, with alcohol definitely present... The aroma was strong, but I couldn't put my finger on the fragrance...

Taste, pleasant..but I think my palate is somewhat distorted from the stouts, ipas, dipas and other beers I've dived into recently...

Would it be a beer I'd pick up again...probably not, just not my style. Was I happy to have tried it, yes..and I'm looking forward to the next 3 in this little anniversery series that they have..

A - Pours a darker yellow color with a small white head that fades quickly.

S - Fruit flavors are dominant. I am picking up pineapple, grapefruit, orange, and some peach. Hops seem to be in the background.

T - Same fruit flavor as in the nose. Hops offer some bitterness for balance but are used less than I expected. This is not a bad thing though, the beer is very drinkable.

M - Light and crisp.

D - I didn't detect much alcohol at all. I thought this was very easy to drink.

Interesting find after a recent sojurn on the river...

This Schlafly brew poured out a high clarity golden orange, with some visible carbonation present. Frothy white foam that left random arcs of lace and spoty bits here and there. Retention was good, and lasted the duration of the glass.

Aroma was slightly sweet, floral and fruity, with a mild white grape or peach note.

Flavor was malty, somewhat sweet again, with a mild bitterness. Light hoppiness, but not really enough to contribute significant flavor. Slightly herbal, but really malt/yeast driven. Medium bodied, it seemed like an Imperial Helles or Marzen even. Not bad, something i'd try again... preferably on tap if available.

A - Poured out a clear, highly carbonated, golden orange hue with a two finger, bubbly, off-white head of foam. It left sticky, sheets of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled floral with strong caramel maltiness.

T - Sweet caramel and grain flavors with a light grassy bitterness. A boozy flavor develops as it continues to warm up.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish and a warm booziness.

D - This was good. In the end it was a lot to drink.

Poured from the bottle a bright clear gold color with a large-bubbled white head. Tons of sticky lacing left around the glass.

Aroma of grainy malts, honey, white grapes, candy sugar, earth and herbal notes.

The taste was sweet with honey, white grapes, tropical fruit and grainy malts. Warm buzz from the 9% alcohol.

Medium bodied and very dry with a crisp carbonation.

A very nice Imperial Pilsner to celebrate 20 years of brewing in St. Louis. A must try.

750 ml bottle poured into a Schlafly Kölsch stange glass. The first poured gives a three finger tall, powdery white head. Lacing is minimal and spotty. Body color is a deeper straw yellow than a traditional pilsner. I would think this is due to the increased malt bill. The body still has the clarity of a good pilsner. I can read the bottle information through the glass.

Smell has an interesting shift as the beer breathes. With the first pour there is a clean, grassy hops aroma. After a few minutes it shifts to a dry cracker smell. Towards the end it becomes a heavier bread aroma. Through out the smell shift, the taste pretty much stays the same. A very slight floral hops flavor with a hint of grass. The primary flavor is a doughy malt character.

The mouthfeel is heavy. In fact this is one of the heaviest Imperial Pilsners I have ever had. This bottle is nearly more than I can handle on my own. Not so much for the 9 % ABV, but more for the density.

pour was a deep yellow with a slight hint of copper. light head. very light retention. little lacing.

light fruit, light hops, hints of malt and alcohol.

this has a light fruit profile through out. the hops really add the flavor here. malt is fairly big balancing this out. booze really comes out as this warms up.

moderate carbonation and fairly heavy body. slightly dry.

a nice imperial pilsner. i would like a bit more hops to offset the alcohol flavor. other than that, pretty solid.
