Pours a clear, amber color. One inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of citrus hops, sweet malt, hint of grass, and hint of dry hops. Fits the style of an American Amber / Red Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is also a strong bitterness. Tastes of citrus hops, slight floral hops, sweet malt, and a hint of grass. Overall, too hop-centric, in my opinion, but great appearance.

Enjoyed @ the iTap House in Chesterfield, MO! Wanted to try this Ale on Tap because it was only brewed for the occasion of the Opening Day for the St. Louis Cardinals and the fact that it was only at the Schlafly Tap Room and both iTap House Locations. Poured into a Non-labeled Pint Glass and tapped from the Tradition Silver Lined Schlafly Tap heads that had the Label "Schlafly American Red Ale" on the top.
Appearance- An intense and bright Ruby Red (and I mean ruby!) body that was clear. There was 1 finger of head on top that was also a red tint and the head left a sudsy lace on the sides. The retention was decent with the timer going (of course).
Smell- Starts off with a huge citrus hop smell and then goes into a tough to bear aroma of a freshly cut lawn.. This may be a grassy attribute? Has a great ton of floral and herbal notes.
Taste- There are huge citrus hop flavors in the begginning and almost an IPA here as well. Extremely hoppy for an American Red Ale and I dig it! I think Schlafly nailed it with this one. There may have been a type of hopped up, amber ale here or an English Pale Ale comparison, but I say it is just fine!
Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Tart after taste, Good Viscocity, and a Medium amount of Carbontion. Very sticky on the swallow and could be a session beer if made again! The only flaws are that there is too much floral grassiness in this one and not enough citric sprciness. Very good but could have had a better finish/mouthfeel.
Overall- A "So Fucking" Red Ale or "Sofa King" Ale for those watching the Cardinals lose their home opener? Either way, this ale was extremely well brewed and enjoyed thoroughly. I wish they were going to brew this again but no word yet. Schlafly brewer, Brennan Greene and iTap manager, Cory King created this ale and look forward to seeing what else Schlafly has in store as I am participating in the "End of Prohibition Festival" this coming Saturday, 4/16/11.
