In German, “hefe” refers to the yeast which remains in suspension giving the German beer its cloudy appearance. This is a very cloudy version of the style with some noticeable phenolic flavors of clove and fruity esters. This thick and hearty hefe will put hair on your chest.

the better and more interesting of the two beers i had in here, this is a pretty boldly hopped hefe, and there is a great synergy between the unique idaho gem hops and the esters in the german yeast, an unlikely combination, but a thoughtful amalgamation of ingredients, fresh as can be, and an agreeable twist on a classic. i like how fresh this is, and not just from the hops, but the wheat malt seems distinctly fresh and clean too, earthy and dry, a nice base for the hops, which have subtle melon, lime candy, and herbal qualities in aroma and flavor, and is present from start to finish in this. no real flavor climax, it all sort of hits at once, the yeast is nicely done as well, light clove, dried orange peel, and even almond or amaretto notes to its ester profile, and the hops fit in super well with it, very fresh, slightly zesty, clean to finish though too for what it is. some body from the wheat but this remains light and drinkable to me, aided by pretty high carbonation and a drier finish. nice beer, cool use of the hops, no bitterness hardly at all, but a very distinct character from the idaho gem. quite summery overall, i could down a few of these...
