a really cool beer here, among the best ive had from these guys, a rye stout incorporating a few different rye malts, and with some gnarly can art that looks more like trve than anything ive had from bewilder before, very metal. the beer is dialed in too, unique and well refined, not heavy for a stout, almost tempted to call it a black ale, smooth and without a ton of body really, and beautiful in the glass with an obsidian luster and a high mid brown head thats wispy and lasting, lokos great! the nose is less spicy than expected with the rye but also less roasty despite the color being dark dark brown to almost pure black. i get some dusty rye, dark cocoa, dark bread, and some hops too, which i think compliment the rye nicely, light pine there, some good bitterness apparent, very fresh, with subtle middle malt sweetness and even a honey note, trace yeastiness too, almost english to me how it presents, subtly very complex, uncommon even. the flavor is just as good as the nose, lots of rye, chocolate malt character too, and some bite at the end, this gets more flavorful as it warms but doesnt get heavier, part brown ale part stout it seems, earthy from the rye with some of its familiar spice character coming out, remarkable depth of flavor and balance, hints of molasses and fig and dark soil, pleasant sweetness is persistent, husky and hully in a good way, very full spectrum grain to me, smooth and lighter than expected, effervescent almost creamy on the palate, malty aftertaste, overall super unique and delicious, definitely an impressive offering and perhaps a new high water mark for bewilder, loved it! would be stoked to drink this one again at some point, real different for a stout, smart and dialed in!
