355 mL can; no canning date, listed at 4.5% and served slightly chilled. Day 18 of the 2025 Toronto Brewing advent calendar.
Pours a clear, pale straw yellow colour, producing nearly two fingers of bubbly, frothy white head that dissipates over the next five minutes. Many splotches and strands of sticky lace are flung onto the glass, with a sudsy collar and thin, filmy cap remaining on the surface; looks fine so far. Clean, inviting aroma of grainy malts, soda cracker, grassy hay and floral hops.
This is a quality German pils. The flavours follow the nose - grainy, bready malts and crackery sweetness, followed by a firm slap of noble hops on the back end. Grassy & herbal, with some earthy bitterness rounding out the finish; grassy aftertaste that fades after a moment or two. Maybe a little bit hoppier than average for the style, but I'm digging it. Light in body, with average carbonation that brushes briskly across the palate. Ridiculously drinkable.
Final Grade: 3.93, a promising B+. True History's Tango Pils is a damn fine brew, and also one of the better Canadian pilsners that I can recall trying in recent memory. My main complaint? The serving size is too small! In all seriousness, this is just as good as some of my go-to German exports, e.g. Jever and Bitburger, and possibly even a little bit better. If this were available locally, I have no doubt that it would already be a regular in my rotation - highly recommended to anyone who appreciates this style.
