355 mL can served slightly chilled; dated Oct 22 2025. Day 19 of the 2025 Toronto Brewing advent calendar.

Pours a bright, clear orange amber colour, fitted with an inch of lumpy, soapy, off white-coloured head. Five minutes later, it has largely degraded, reduced to a frothy collar surrounding a patchy cap, with scant lace deposition. Bread, toasted grains and lightly caramelized malts on the nose, with hints of grassy hay and wheaty cereals.

A flavourful, strong German-style lager with plenty of rich, bready malt and toasted grain flavour. Subtle hints of honey biscuit sweetness also come through, with leafy, grassy hops and an herbal bitterness rounding out the finish. Bittersweet aftertaste of biscuity malts and grassy, herbal hops that lingers on the tastebuds. Medium in body, with moderately low carbonation that brushes softly across the palate, complementing this brew's extraordinarily smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Good drinkability; I could go for another can, but I doubt I could session this all night.

Final Grade: 3.87, a B+. I'm reasonably certain that True History's is the only Braunbier I've ever reviewed. Some cursory research suggests that they're similar to, but not quite the same as a marzen - and if that's the measuring stick we're going with, then I think this is a pretty solid one. If nothing else, it was fun to try an obscure regional style such as this one... or at least, a North American take on that motif. Highly recommended if you have an appreciation for oktoberfest-type lagers, or German beer in general.

Recent can from the source. Quaffable beer, a bit of bitterness keeps it interesting. A beer that needs food accompaniment to finish. Somewhat bland.
