Found at Eataly Chicago at its Birreria sitting on the shelf next to many American beers. (Apparently, Italian beers are struggling even at Eataly; as I've seen their portfolio shift from mostly Italian to at least 75% American.) The importer for Pozzo 16 is in suburban Chicago, hence my luck of finding.

While I might like to visit Sardinia if I was to sample all 20 Italian provinces during the course of a year, I am glad to have one of their beers for now. Tourism is very important to Sardinia's economy and I expect that includes many Germans and, hence, this local micro that adheres to the Bavarian code of 1516. They brew only 5 beers, 3 are German. Pozzo means "well water" in Italian. Pozzo 5 is a dunkel, Pozzo 9 is a Vienna and this Pozzo 16 is what I call a Helles because it is soft and has a low IBU of 16. (Their APA is Pozzo 20, but has 35 IBU.)

The 4 Mori recommend pairing with seafood, also a Helles characteristic. I had my copy with leftover pizza and it was fine with that, also.

A soft quasi-clear blond with moderate bubbles, Pozzo 16 greets my nose with soft malt aromatics. Tastes are the same, no surprises. That said, there is a very mild after-taste. I am not sure the water is all that great. So, I do some quick research and find out that Sardinia does have water problems for its 1.6 million islanders. So, I assume the 4 Mori do draw from a good well (on relative basis) that would suit a soft beer like a Helles... but not be suited for a crisp lager like a pils.

Regardless, Pozzo 16 is a refreshing, gentle beer. I'm glad I experienced Sardinia on the cheap.
While the 4 Mori's website does not have an English button and thus is not ready for wide U.S. distribution, it is well-done and the photos are pretty to look at. And for making micro-brews in the land of wine and olive oil, I got to give them Big OA Hugs.
