Bottle 0.5L.
Clear deep golden body with an average, frothy, white head, mostly diminishing with some lacing.
Moderate malty (cereals, hay) and light hoppy (grass) aroma with notes of sugar.
Moderate sweet and light-to-moderate bitter flavour; long-lasting bitter/sweet finish.
Medium body with oily texture; soft carbonation; light alcoholic feeling in the finish.

Purchased from Sydney's Oak Barrel. Surprisingly this is my first from Riegele. Augsburg (a suburb of Munich) has many famous breweries and if I ever get to that town, Riegele is on my list. But I must say that they annoy me as do too many Bavarian brewers when their websites don't have an English button and I can only look at the photos. Tradition is tradition; but in a global world, put a translation button for all to see. It costs very little and says a lot about your business. Danke !

Hell & Stark has a generous head, but it withers. Smells also are malty with some sugar to amp up the ABV; but barely above average, in part because I get more than a hint of fumes. Given that, the malt still seems complex and Tastes are reasonably well balanced; but the fumes finish this bock. Medium-mouthed, edging towards full.

Pours a strawy, bright golden color with a big, fluffy head.

Smells of hay, white bread dough, flour and a whiff of rock sugar.

Tastes of dried straw, grainy caramel and herbal hops, adding a nice dry punch to the rustic foundation of this. Turns just a little sweeter then, with toffee cutting through soft grains and a lighter spicy peak. Finishes with a floral undertone, leading to a light and rustic, semi sweet finish, to which the hops contribute a lasting, subtle dryness.

Well balanced and flavorful Doppelbock with an intriguing spice-whole grain bread interplay to it.

33cl brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

You don't run into many Pale Doppelbocks, this one is a doozie rest right at 8.5%. A bit of chill haze topped with a great looking off-white lace. Smells of grass, alcohol, and herbal hop. Smooth with a creamy full-ish body. Big smooch of alcohol is met but a brawny malt character. Lots of fresh grain with a mild sweetness. Herbal hop and more alcohol in the finish. Good drinking all around, hunt a bottle down.
