With Swoon, we wanted to brew a slightly drier style lager, with a new hop profile. We brought in Premiant and Saaz Shine hops for this malt forward lager. We’re getting biscuit, cracker, and a touch of orange blossom. This is a lager that will check all the boxes for your daily “crusher” lager.

473 mL can from the brewery; dated Jan 17 2024 and served slightly chilled.
Pours relatively clear, its pale yellow complexion fogged up by the presence of countless flecks of fine sediment. Nearly two fingers of fluffy, foamy, sparkling white head linger for three or four minutes, gradually reduced to a frothy cap and meringue-like collar; great lace deposition, too. Bready, biscuity malts on the nose, complemented by highly herbal, slightly spicy hops.
Not your average light lager - quite flavourful, with both the malt and hop bills standing out at one point or another. Sourdough bread, digestive biscuit and whole grain cereals, with just a hint of citrus acidity; later on, notes of herbal, floral hops and earthy bitterness become more prominent. Herbal/floral aftertaste that persists momentarily before drying. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that feels crisp, prickling the surface of the tongue continuously throughout each sip. Very sessionable.
Final Grade: 3.87, a worthy B+. When I review a light lager, I tend to keep my expectations... realistic. That is to say, I'm really not expecting to have my socks knocked off - something refreshing and tasty will do just fine, thank you very much. Swoon from Beerlab! is both of those things, and much more. The hops were a little jarring for the first few sips - quite potent for a light lager, but I generally like Czech varieties, and so over the course of the glass I really started to dig it. Easily one of the better light lagers I've had over the years - if I lived in downtown London, I'd drink this on a regular basis.
