473 mL can purchased at the brewery; dated Jul 28 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours turbid, with an apricot yellow-toned body that is capped off with one finger of frothy, soapy white head. It lingers for three minutes or so, soon reduced to a thin, bubbly film upon the surface; good coverage from its messy coat of lacing, too. I'm getting white grapefruit and pineapple on the nose, with lesser hints of stone fruit, lemon and passion fruit coming through as the glass warms and the aroma opens up.
A decent little NEIPA, with very low bitterness and a relatively juicy flavour profile. I'm getting grapefruit, tangerine and passion fruit, as well as suggestions of apricot, mango and melon; that all holds true through to the finish, which includes a bit of pithy, resiny bitterness before reverting back to citrus/tropical fruit in the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that provides a little bit of a crisp bite to this brew's otherwise smooth, soft texture on the tongue. I finished my glass quickly enough, and could have gone for another.
Final Grade: 3.76, a B+. Imperial City's Hazy NEIPA was more drinkable than most NEIPAs IMO - partly because of its reasonable abv, although the appealing flavours and minimal bitterness also help in this regard. It's a solid effort for a young brewery - sure, there are better hazy IPAs at the LCBO these days, but as far as local efforts go it's one of the best I've had so far. If you're planning to stop by the brewhouse, make this beer part of your itinerary.
