Tallboy purchased at the brewery a month or two ago; dated Jul 12 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a little foggy; its pale golden yellow-hued body supports one finger of soapy, foamy white head that vanishes within ninety seconds or so. A thin, filmy cap and modest collar stick around, with a wavy coat of smooth lacing deposited behind it - looks the part, I'd say. Wheaty pale malts and grainy sweetness on the nose, along with hints of citrus peel, grassy hops and very mild coriander spice.
A decent little wit - I'm getting crackery wheat and cereal grain sweetness at the forefront, with spicy coriander and hints of white pepper not long thereafter. Very subtle suggestions of orange peel come through later; finishes mildly spicy, with lingering hints of yeast, grassy hops and cereal grains. Light in body, with assertive soda-pop carbonation that prickles and prods the palate continuously, providing a good bite well into the course of the glass. Highly refreshing, and very drinkable.
Final Grade: 3.67, a respectable B grade. Imperial City's Belgian Wit is a pretty solid stab at a witbier, but there's some room for improvement - this one's a little on the sweet side, with a bit of a corn sugar feel that steers the tail end & aftertaste away from that crisp, spicy finish that I look for in this style. More orange peel presence would've also been appreciated, though the coriander is just about perfect. Minor gripes aside, it's nice to have a local white ale as an option... I wouldn't mind sipping this next summer on the patio at Skeeter's, or the adjacent beach for that matter.
