Out of retirement. Canned July 20, 2022. Served cold into a tulip. LCBO purchase for just south of $4 CDN.
Appearance - Semi-hazy dark golden brew with three fingers of long-lived fluffy white head. Some streaks of lacing.
Smell - Mango and vanilla are present as per the advertising, the coconut is sort of lurking in the background and combining with the vanilla. Orange notes in there too. Does have similarities in aroma to a fruited tub of yogurt.
Taste - Mango vanilla smoothie. Some mango some vanilla, hints of coconut and orange. Weak grainy backbone. Lack of bitterness. Lacking intensity.
Mouthfeel - Fairly full bodied, creamy texture, does hit the brief as a "Milkshake IPA"
Overall - This is a tasty enough tipple, well constructed and such, although with the sweetness, fruitiness and creaminess, it doesn't really feel like an IPA. With that said, tasty enough and will be a big draw for some.

473 mL can purchased at the brewery; no canning date. Served slightly chilled.
Pours a muddy copper-amber colour, topped with nearly two fingers of foamy, soapy white head that recedes at a casual pace; within five minutes, it has been reduced to a quarter-inch cap and collar of creamy head. Gobs of gorgeous lacing are flung about in its wake - looks fantastic in the glass. The coconut and mango are well-represented on the nose, but I'm also getting hints of orange, pineapple, vanilla and melon.
Not a real complex flavour profile - the mango and vanilla come through at the forefront, with the coconut coming to dominate the middle of the sip. Suggestions of cantaloupe amidst a vanilla and sugar-heavy finish: the lactose is used liberally, making this a little sweeter than most milkshake IPAs that I've had. Medium in body, with light carbonation and a silky-smooth feel on the tongue. Its drinkability is ok - there's potential as a dessert beer, but it's not something I'd want to drink on a regular basis.
Final Grade: 3.68, a B grade. Imperial City's Milkshake IPA has got the milkshake aspect nailed down, but I'm not so sure about the IPA side. This is one of those beers where the bonus ingredients largely steal the show, and the end result - while fairly unique and appealing - is not particularly well-rounded. If you like the sounds of a mango, coconut and vanilla milkshake beer, then this pretty much delivers that, and I'd encourage you to give it a try.
