473 mL can from the brewery; dated Aug 30 2021 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a bright, clear, sunny yellow colour, topped with nearly one finger of foamy white head that sizzles off within sixty seconds or so, leaving a modest amount of stringy lace behind as it recedes. A thin collar is the only other remnant of note - looks good for what it is. Nothing particularly notable on the nose - corn chips, grain husks, and a faint hint of lemony, earthy hops.
A light beer in all but name only - it tastes of grainy pale malts, corny sweetness and subtly earthy, spicy hops. Hints of grain husk in the finish, with some grainy sweetness momentarily lingering into the aftertaste. Light in body, with assertive carbonation and a crisp, palate-scrubbing mouthfeel - ideal for washing down some spicy grub, and something I could probably drink one after another with no real issue.
Final Grade: 3.53, a B grade. Let's be clear, I've never considered myself above the occasional Tecate or Modelo - I'll even take a Corona, if someone else is buying. Imperial City's Mexican Lager is essentially a better version of those sorts of cervezas, though the freshness may be relevant here - this can is less than two weeks old, which must count for something. It's cleaner than a macro lager, but not a whole lot more interesting - technically above average, and perfect backyard session lager fare.
