Whitman Brewing Co. "More Massive Medallions"
one quart crowler filled on 8/19/21 and sampled on 09/02/21
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a cloudy golden / brass colored body beneath an inch or so of densely foamy off-white. This is a double IPA so I'm not expecting too much in the aroma. I'm getting malt, orange, and hop resins. The flavor follows suit with a wider character. It's not just basic malt going on, there's more to it. Is it honey malt? A bit of crystal 40? I don't know but I think we can safely assume that there's wheat in it, and probably oats although I can't pick them out. It's nice. It's not too sweet, nor too complex, but just enough of both. The hops are similar in that there's more going on that just the specific notes that are readily picked out. I'm getting a kind of cherry-like note which is really nice, but I have no idea if that's from hops, yeast, a combination or something else. It's dank and fruity and sweet but still dry in the end despite a low bitterness. It's got an earthy dustiness to it, some firmer "dankness", and then a spritz of citrus in the finish. This is one of those beers that you can't quite put down because it's so intriguing and pleasing. At 8% it's a little bit dangerous in that sense although you do sense the alcohol in it. In the mouth it's medium bodied and dextrinous, no doubt buoyed by the extra proteins. It's moderately crisp and then silky smooth across the tongue.
