Inspired by the coal fired kettles of regional Franconia, Burgenstraße "Castle Road" is brewed with 100% vienna malt and hallertau hops. It's brewed using the traditional franconia style decoction, gleaned from an 1865 translation. We love this beer and think you will too.

Burnt gold with a lumpy head of khaki foam.

Toasty and herbal, it's almost Czech pilsy. A touch of light caramel comes out in the frothy middle before finishing semi-dry.

Refreshing yet boldly tasty.

16oz can purchased from the fridge as a 4-pack directly from Human Robot in Jenkintown for $16. This was canned on 08/10/2023, so it's just 7 weeks old.

Look: It pours out a clear light copper / gold color. There was a rocky off-white head of about a finger and half that died down to a thin "pillow top" that is holding itself nicely. There is a steady stream of small- to medium-sized bubbles that are rising up the glass.

Smell: It has a nice toasty aroma along with a significant hop bite and some spice (clove). To me, this smells like a less malty, hoppier version of the Polotmavy nose. Aromas are also a bit grassy and peppery as well as crackery with a subtle apple sweetness.

Taste: Solid. The taste basically follows the nose. It has a good amount of flavor for a 5.2% beer. Nice toasted grain up front. This is quite hoppy as the finish has a significant earthy bitterness that lingers long and steady. The finish is dry, peppery, and spicy/earthy. The beer is so hoppy though that it's hard to find that toasty malt again from the front end after swallowing it.

Feel: It's medium to medium plus bodied. Very clean.

Overall: This is my second Franconain-Style Lager (Forest & Main's Strange Rituals was my first). This is a bit different though because it's a Zwickelbier. I wasn't expecting this to be as hoppy as it is. I do like it, it's just a bit different from what I was expecting. I could see how this could grow on me if I was drinking it as a session beer. It's an example of what Human Robot does so well - tasty, chuggable low-ABV lagers.

Solid amber body, clear; bountiful slow-rising carbonation; thick, billowy white head. Pleasant aroma of cereal grain and mild caramel notes; light spiciness for depth. Nice, subtle toasted malt backbone; mild hop bitterness; mild spiciness. Medium-light body; crisp; some residual sugar notes; light dryness throughout.

This is an enjoyable amber lager, light malt character with a bolder hop presence.

Pouring temperature: 45 °F; canning info: unavailable

Pours a gorgeous copper color with some haze in the body and a creamy white head that provides ample lacing. It is very easy to see this beer is unfiltered, per the zwickelbier style. Such a beautiful beer.

The nose is wheat bread, which I love, and some floral hops, a nice balance that has me eager to take that first drink. And I’m not disappointed, because that wheat bread flavor is forward and delicious, but there’s a lot of room for the floral hop flavors to provide a nice bitterness to this flavor-packed lager.

The mouthfeel is crisp and drying, a truly crushable beer that I could enjoy on a spring or fall evening as things chilled down a bit. Exceptionally well done, IMHO.

16oz can courtesy of a ninja strike made on my perfectly innocent porch by jonphisher. According to the stamp on the side of the can, this was canned on February 24, 2022. My first from Human Robot, and maybe my first zwickelbier (edit: nope, I've had a couple others, just none recently).

Poured into a dimpled mug, this was a clear, coppery, autumnal color, with a pretty good-sized, beige colored head. Lots of lace.

The nose reminds me of both an Oktoberfest and a Vienna Lager, although it seems a little more malty sweet than the latter. Bready, slightly toasty, with a light, perfumey hop scent.

Malt forward, with a bready, toasty and slightly sweet flavor, with a little bit of floral, dry hop flavor to provide some contrast.

Fairly light yet complex mouthfeel that makes it seem a little bit bigger than it is. Clean finishing.

Really nice, subtle beer that is hitting the spot after work. Just a pleasure to drink. Thanks, Jon!

The only other franconian style lager I've had is from Fox Farm and I loved it so I'm excited to try this one.

Pours brilliantly clear a shade between straw and amber; very nice color. The head settles into a soapy island and then slowly disappears to splotchy islands. Random dots of lacing from the initial head.

Nose is a pleasant combination of fresh baked bread that is just slightly toasted, and a really nice earthy and floral like hop aroma.

Drinking brings out much of the same; slightly toasted bread and earthy grassy hops, maybe some graininess.

Light body yet full and complex mouthfeel, there is a drying sensation on the tongue that pairs nicely with a low to medium bitterness. This beer is very very easy to drink quickly with zero thought.

Have to take points off on looks; pours with a lot of foam (maybe overcarbonated, I've seen similar things from Human Robot) that settles down into unattractive foam clumps in the beer. Once it settles down it's very good - copper color, malty aroma and lots of caramel malty taste with a little sweetness and some nice bitterness that comes close but doesn't overpower. Aside from the overfoam it's a very good beer.

Pours a dark hazed copper with three fingers of tan-colored foam head. Great retention and thick, sudsy lacing.

Bready aroma with some skunkiness and light roasted nuts cutting what otherwise might be sweetness.

The bready sweetness continues up front the taste, overpowered in the finish by some moderately-strong earthy bitterness and a light metallic note.

Light to medium bodied with some nice, light zip to the carbonation.

Another highly quaffable lager from these guys. Has some borderline Oktoberfest characteristics, but with enough form bitterness to keep it out of the category.
