A collaboration with Second District. Named for a little forest in the mountain passes of Thuringia. This dark lager pours stealth black with hints of deep ruby. Toasty, with a heavy hand on roasted malts, and a nice dash of tettnang hops for balance and spice. We used a single decoction, and kept the body lean for a more modern, highly drinkable approach.

Pours a deep dark brown with a brownish head that doe not stick around. Malty and chocolatey aromas. Same flavors, with a fairly bitter finish and a bit of sourness. Fairly dry. Nice mouthfeel.

Pours very dark brown, approaching black, with three fingers of creamy tan head. Rocky dissipation and scuzzy lacing.
Lovely aroma of roasted malts, milk chocolate and, at moments, whiffs of AAL “beer.”
The malt profile runs the gamut in the taste, with each sip starting sweet, then quickly getting roasty, and finally borderline astringent. Less chocolatey than the nose. Maybe a distant, distant hint of that tang in Kostritzer, too.
The light side of medium bodied with relatively restrained carbonation.
Maybe not quite as quaffable as some examples, but still a very tasty, highly drinkable brew.
