Irish Style Lager - Brewed to the original specs of a beloved Irish lager, as it would have been done in the 1960’s. We brought in floor malted lager malt from warminster malting and performed a cereal mash/decoction with corn grits. The beer is hopped in the kettle with Saaz and Styrian Goldings followed by a classical Bavarian style fermentation, with natural carbonation and cold maturation. This recipe can be found in Ron Pattinson’s book titled “Lager” and follows the original process outlined in the notes from the breweries that brewed the beer back then.

Shockingly clear wedding band gold, which isn't always the case out of the can for whatever reason, with a tall white head with a sort of tapioca bubble surface.

Perhaps I'm too young, but I'm not sure what makes this Irish-style, but it's quite the quenching corny but grassy lager that seems to sit between German and Czech varieties.

Pours an effervescent straw color with a thumb+ of eggshell colored head. Very nice head retention & lacing

S: Grassy & perfumy hops, some soapy notes

T: Light breadyness, grassy, hints of lime. Dryness, limes & grassyness as this beer warms up. Finishes dry & crisp, with grassy & lime notes

MF: Light body, crisp carbonation, okay balance

Kind of run of the mill, just not that interesting, drinkability suffers due to lack of flavor & body, not a big fan of the style

Pale gold with strong effervescence and a large, rocky white head that leaves clumps of lacing.

Skunky, stale hops aroma — but a wetter, rottier, less-crisp and less-sulfury skunkiness than what you’d expect from a green bottle Euro lager.

The same qualities carry to the taste, coupled with some sweeter herbs like an Italian pils, mixed in with the strong, muddy skunk. Pungent tasting, but with a fairly clean aftertaste.

Medium bodied with strong carbonation.

I’m not sure I know what an Irish lager is supposed to taste like, but this isn’t one I particularly enjoy.
