Smoked Schwarzbier - In collaboration with Empress Rising PHL - In the late 60's and early 70's, Bavarian lager and Metal music took England by storm. With that in mind, we brewed up this English riff on a Schwarzbier. Borrowing from both traditions, we used English floor malt and Fuggle hops, German black and smoked malt, and our house lager yeast with a Bavarian style mashing and fermentation regimen.

pours a very dark brown but not quite black, with khaki colored head. good head retention. aroma of mild roast, cola, and a touch of smoke. taste is similar - the smoke is fairly restrained and comes more in the finish of the beer. medium bodied.

Very dark brown with a large and lasting creamy tan head that leaves heavy lacing. Smokey, malty, meaty aroma. Moderate smoke in the taste balanced against the light malt sweetness. Fuller bodied and softer than what I normally expect from the style. Nice balance and drinkability, but not to style as I expect it.
