There was nothing greatly unusual about the pour that emptied the entire contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug. In typical modern American IPA fashion, there's a little too much just-off-white foam atop, rather than a decent head. The body beneath is dull apricot-amber and it's opaque. Not particularly aromatic, there's at least some tropical fruit aspect to be had. The taste isn't bad, but it's just another modern American hazy IPA, barley malt lacking and therefore short on a true IPA flavor. Whatever starches are used to malt this, the sweet backbone is shallow, almost to being annoying. Unfortunately, there's too little hops to taste to salvage this one. At least they're a little dryer than fruit. Lovers of the traditional IPAs and their American evolution appreciate what a good barley malt backed and decently hopped ale can deliver. Hop heads have no problem with the bitterness of the West Coast style, because the good ones offer a nice hoppy bite. This is so unfavorful on both sides, it's hard to tell to whom it would appeal. But, if you are looking for a beer that's relatively sweet and not overly hopped, to deliver a pleasant dose of an 8% ABV, here it is. With its somewhat short of mouthfeel, read the lack of sufficient barley malt, there's no surprise in its lack of glass lacing. At least the artwork on the label is nice, if you like cats.
