A British Style Tavern Stout. Dry and roasty, it would be great for a backyard BBQ.

At the brewery. Served on cask in a dimpled mug. Because it's a cask pour it's served less cold than most brewery pours, which is welcome. It pours a very dark cola color with a thick, creamy, light khaki head and heavy lacing. It makes a very nice presentation. The nose is malty with molasses, toffee, and cola, along with a slightly smoky char. It's quite fragrant. Its taste opens with dry, roasty, bitter, nutty, earthy notes balanced by the slight sweetness of molasses, toffee, and freshly-brewed coffee. The wheat and Maris Otter malt give it lots of depth. It finishes with a mild acidic bitterness. The mouth feel is very lite with moderate carbonation and at only 4.5% ABV is easy to drink. Overall, this is a very nice offering. I commend Odd Bird for brewing a "tavern style" English Stout and then serving it on cask. It's very flavorful and fun to drink.

32 oz crowler. Opened one week after purchase.

Pours black in color with a creamy tan head. You can see towards the end of the glass after drinking it that the color is actually dark brown and there is good clarity.

Aroma is pleasant with chocolate, molasses, and lightly roasted malt. A touch of earthy hops for balance. Flavor leans more towards chocolate and caramel with a hint of bitterness at the end. Finishes dry and lightly bitter. Medium bodied and smooth.

This is an easy drinking stout. Finishing the crowler on my own was no issue. Very mild with enough malt character to keep your interest. A great beer to session with!
