i hadnt heard much about these guys since they took over the white dog space downtown, but was in the area and thought i would check it out. im super glad i did, as this was one of the better hoppy beers i had anywhere in the state last week, very well made and with a distinctive hop profile that sets it apart in this crowded category, really good stuff! pale colored brew between blonde and rust shaded, bright but not perfectly clear, and a nice inch of white head from the tap, airy and lasting. it smells balanced but in a modern way, some sweetness from the malt and a little toasted note apparent, even a little honey and graham cracker to it, but it works with the hops really well, and better here than medium crystal malt does in a lot of older school ipa types, good synergy to this, and it remains light as i drink it. the hops give off peach and pineapple notes in the aroma, more mango and sweet orange in the taste, strikingly fresh and forward here, from start to finish, and without more than moderate bitterness later on, its got great balance and drinkability. as it warms i get dried apricot, peach nectar, and green tea, and floral honey, just delicious, and it has a nice oily west coast sort of linger, slow fade, but high drinkabilty. impressively good ipa, this deserves more attention than it seems to be getting, way ahead of the curve! awesome fruity hop complexion to this.
